In this video, I walk through how to use security filters in Google AppSheet to control which data users can see in your app. I created a sample service request tracking app with two tables: one for requests and another for users. The goal is to ensure that managers can view all service requests, while technicians only see the ones assigned to them.
To do this, I use AppSheet’s built-in security filters. These are expressions (for help creating expressions, check out our AppSheet Advisor AI Assistant) that you apply to your tables to limit the data shown to each user based on specific conditions. In this case, the conditions are based on the user’s role and whether a request is assigned to them.
I show how to set up these filters step-by-step, including how to write the expression using the AppSheet Advisor AI assistant. I also demonstrate how to test your app as different users to make sure the filters are working correctly.
