If your website is core to your product or sales, uptime really matters. Even short periods of downtime can frustrate users and hurt your business. While advanced tools exist for uptime monitoring, they can be expensive and overly complex, especially if your needs are basic.
In this video, we’ll look at how to set up a simple, customizable uptime monitoring app built entirely with Google AppSheet. If you’re already using Google Workspace, you can likely use this app at no extra cost.
The app lets you monitor one or more websites and notifies you by email if any of them fail a check. You can configure expected HTTP status codes, look for specific content in the response, and even include custom headers for secure endpoints. There’s a built-in log to review past checks and a test feature to trigger checks manually.

Do you build with Google AppSheet? Download my AppSheet Advisor AI Assistant. It’s a Chrome extension that helps you build whatever you can imagine. And it’s free to get started!
We’ll also walk through how to install the app from a template, connect it to your own Google account, and authorize the Apps Script functions behind the scenes. You can enable scheduled checks at different times, customize the app’s logo, and optionally receive push notifications through the AppSheet mobile app.
Since the app uses Google Sheets as its backend, it’s easy to modify or extend. This is a great example of how AppSheet can turn a simple spreadsheet into a powerful no-code tool with automations and a clean user interface.
